The new lighthouse at the port of Valencia has won the innovation award in the category of infrastructure at the JEC World 2016 Innovation Awards, the most important awards in the world in the field of composite materials.
The award, which will be delivered on March 8 in Paris, has recognized the innovation both in the design and construction of 32 meters high Lighthouse located in the northern extension of the port of Valencia.
The lighthouse, designed by the architect Ignacio Pascual, director of infrastructure for the port authority of Valencia, is the first in the world built entirely with composites such as carbon fiber and fiberglass, which gives great lightness, with only 3,000 kilos weight. In this sense, the use of them materials compounds guarantees a greater resistance to the exposure to them environments Marine to the not verse affected by the corrosion, minor workings of maintenance and a reduction of a 20% of them emissions of CO2 in the process constructive to the require less displacement of materials heavy.
The new installation has of technology led, that allows a range of 25 miles nautical, with a consumption electric of 70 watts and a life useful of 100,000 hours. It is also self-sufficient using renewable energy. In particular, the lighthouse incorporates ten solar energy oriented South and a vertical axis wind turbine, which contributes to significantly reduce its energy consumption.
